California Approval and Accreditation

Brown Western Unviersity is FULLY APPROVED by the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education.

The Bureau thoroughly evalutes new and renewing private colleges and universities in the areas of: administrative leadership background and credentials, faculty educational backgrounds, academic degree requirements, financial stability, facilities, pedogogical standards, educational philosophy, and student learning outcomes. We are pleased that Brown Western University has earned its' FULL approval from the California Bureau.

The Leadership Team and Faculty of Brown Western University has many years of experience in educational leadership and management and teaching at fully accredited institutions of higher education. We are also pleased that the leadership saw a need for a school that focused on the needs of adult learners, and thus, Brown Western University was born. Headquartered in California, Brown Western is required to comply with the Educational Regulations for post-secondary Institutions of Higher Education that have been set up by the state. Like many things in California, these regulations and standards are being regularly reviewed and raised. The most recent updating of the Regulations happened in 2009.

Accreditation is an anomaly of the United States and is voluntary. Other countries have centralized departments of education (sometimes called “ministry of education”) which approve the colleges within their countries’ borders. But here in the U.S., even though we have a Department of Education in Washington D.C., that department does not accredit or approve any school. Instead, the Department of Education leaves the task of regulating schools to each state and accreditation to a small, highly select group of approved Accrediting Agencies.

Upon graduating our first class of MBA students, we have been invited to begin the Accreditation process. It usually takes between 12 and 18 months after that time to earn the stamp of "Accredited." Several of the Leadership Team have been through accreditation visits and some have served on Accreditaiton Teams. Thus, we know what it takes and we are confident that we'll earn full accreditation for Brown Western University.
